Start with simple bivariate correlations. All scatterplots below use % Trump votes in 2016 on the y-axis. We split the correlations by Red-Blue states based on 2016 outcomes In some cases analysis is split by Red-Blue-Switch states based on bassed on states that switched Red between 2012 and 2016 presidential elections. Note: Scatter plots exclude DC, HI, and Alaska Graphs use ScatterD3 R wrapper to D3.js by Julien Barnier

Gun ownership is derived from BRFSS 2004 survey conducted by Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Psychographics

The graphs below use variables from research by Rentfrow et al.. The main endeavor in this research is to examine diffrences in big 5 personality traits (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism) based on broad geographies.
